Murder Capital of the World
By many media sources and demographics, Juarez, Mexico has been labeled the "Murder Capital of the World." Juarez has the highest steady body count topping thousands every year. This small city is also infamous for femicide and hundreds of abducted and murdered young women, most of which are students and workers. Unsolved murders and overnight mass murders are a common occurrence here. The Cartels, Border Patrol, Federales, and Policia all fight for power and control. Near the end of 2009, near the peak of activity, I made several trips to Juarez to explore the city and culture, alone. These are some of my sights, experiences, and witnessing.
